Updates

2025-12-02

Hey all, this is the first entry on the new Updates page. Here we will be posting any future updates and news surrounding PDXMC.

Currently, we have a proposed goal of migrating all of what has been built so far to a new map. This new map would have up-to-date, higher quality terrain, and more accurate topography. This is highly ambitious, and if followed through, will take a long time. We would essentially have to move over every single building to the new map one at a time, making minor adjustments as needed due to differences in the terrain. Because we hand-made all of the streets and the hills in Downtown, many of these will simply not line up with the new map's terrain. Roads will have to be entirely redone, as we would be starting from scratch, with more precise measurements and road widths. The buildings themselves should all be forward-compatible, because they were all measured accurately. But they will all have to be modified at street-level on a case-by-case basis.

This means all streets and sidewalks will need to be redone from the ground up, which is a huge undertaking. We are still undecided if we will go through with this plan, as it will be very time consuming, and we have busy adult lives these days. A compromise could be simply moving everything made so far to the new map, simply dragging and dropping everything, and making modifications to the west hills so that it all lines up. This would also be extremely difficult, and would be a less accurate representation overall. We may simply stick with the current map, and try to make changes to the west hills as needed. Because we hand-built every hill on the streets, this means we would essentially be making every single hill by hand, too. Insane amount of work when we could've simply had everything accurate from the start and follow the actual terrain itself.

We will keep you in the loop. Stay tuned.
